In this interactive class, Debbie discusses the tension between God's part and our part in raising children.  Debbie uses scripture and life experience and shares keys to discerning what belongs to us and what needs to be given to God.

Debbie Peterson, our Children's Pastor recently hosted a parenting class entitled "Technology: You Should Care, and This is Why" led by special guests, Lora Geer and Josh Moormann.  

Lora's family was the primary subject of a film exploring the impacts of technology on youth.  Lora shares on the effects of technology on our brains and habits, and offers ideas of how she has guided her children into healthy practices. 

Josh Moormann has spent over two decades in the global telecommunications industry, providing him with a front row seat to the good and bad parts of the Internet in our society. Josh provides practical guidance and examples that families within our community can implement, while we work to create strong families that impact our community for Christ.

Lesson 1: Reasons for Belief

Using the teachings of Natasha Crain, Josh McDowell, and her own life experience, Debbie Peterson gives ideas of conversations to have with your children about why we can trust the Bible to be true and why being a follower of Jesus is the truest life of all.

 


Lesson 2: Understanding Worldview

Helping kids understand the importance of using the Bible to properly make decisions about the issues of our day involves them creating a Biblical Worldview. Debbie provides a simple activity to help kids visualize what it means to have a Biblical Worldview.

 


Lesson 3: Explaining Salvation To Kids

Debbie shares a conversation outline of things you would want to include when sharing the message of salvation with your kids.

 

Lesson 5: Receiving The Baptism Of The Holy Spirit For Kids

Debbie shares tips for sharing the baptism of the Holy Spirit and encourages parents with visuals and her own personal story.


Lesson 4: Sharing Baptism And An Encouragement To Parents

Debbie shares ideas on how to explain water baptism. She also shares the value of side roads that we and our kids take when we lack faith or think our ideas are better than God’s.


Lesson 7: Raising Kids In Today’s Culture

The constant changing of the definitions of words and the repetitiveness of behaviors that were once unacceptable are being used by media to change our culture. Debbie shares ideas on how to have conversations with kids about these changes. Many ideas are taken from the book Faithfully Different, by Natasha Crain.

 

Lesson 8: Social Media and Identity

Using the teachings of Dean Kaneshiro and her own life experience, Debbie Peterson gives guidelines for helping parents make decisions about social media. Debbie also shares the importance of conversations to have about the topic of this generation, identity.

 

Lesson 6: Spiritual Warfare

Debbie shares how to teach kids in an age-appropriate way, that there are forces of light and darkness in the world and we have weapons to fight against them.
